Movement Saturday December 13th @ The Canteen Cinema Room

For the final Movement of the year, we have a special guest appearance by Beardyman.

Beardyman is the current UK Beatbox Champion after successfully defending his title in June 2007 to become the first beatboxer in UK history to win the national championships twice in a row. In his live shows, as well as world-class solo human-beatbox, he uses cutting-edge technology to create layered rhythms, all improvised and created entirely from his voice. No pre-recorded material is used, and everything is created live and in real time in front of the audience.

In recent months Beardyman has supported Andy C, Marky, Shy FX, Grooverider, The Nextmen, Groove Armada, Jazzy Jeff, Skinnyman, Terra Firma, Squarepusher, Blondie, Bill Bailey, The Beastie Boys, Sly and the Family Stone, George Clinton, Underworld, and Jimmy Cliff to name but a few, and has acted as compere for a huge variety of events all around Europe.
A Brighton resident Beardyman also co-runs the ground-breaking night, 'Battlejam' with 2003 Vestax Champion and 2007 UK DMC champion JFB. 'Battlejam', now well into its 2nd year, fuses Hip Hop, Breaks, Reggae, Ragga, Dancehall, Jazz, Funk and Drum 'n' Bass into one sweaty but uplifting experience. Housed at the prestigious 'Audio' on Brighton sea front and 'Cargo' in London, the night incorporates a different set of guest musicians and freestyle MC's each month. Everything at Battlejam is completely improvised.

Beardyman's sounds feature on Groove Armada's new album, A-Skill's new album, the Quemists new album, Screwface and CTRL-Z's new album and a solo project....it goes on and on and on and on and on……
Movement residents Kid Cagoule, Ste Kendall and Ad Bickerdike will be in attendance for the last time this year, supplying classic and upfront hip-hop, funk and beats from 10pm-3am. Tickets are $9 advance and are available from The Canteen, Scotts, Kates Skates and Working Class Heroes.

Movement Vs Homegrown Saturday 22nd November @ The Canteen

The countdown begins........
This Saturday at the Canteen Cinema Room sees two of the finest resident nights go head to head for a one off spectacular - Movement vs Homegrown.
In a 'no holds barred' showdown, both sides will be digging deep and throwing down the finest in hip-hop, funk, roots, breaks and beats and whatever it takes to keep you on the dancefloor.
Movement line up for the night will be Kid Cagoule, Ste Kendall and Ad Bickerdike with their opponents from Homegrown featuring Jamie Graham, Si Rogers and Steve Graham. Both nights have built up quite a following based on their reputations for supplying quality sounds to clued up audiences.
Rounding off November in fine style, Movement have already been busy over the past few weeks with back to back dates at the Canteen and recently supporting at the ATIC records launch party for the Crowhead album 'Born with Teeth'. Homegrown were back on the scene last month with a bang after the summer's Furness Fest takeover, to host ex-Grand Central and Tru Thoughts beatsmith Jon Kennedy. Saturday should see the Cinema Room packed to capacity by this mouthwatering prospect, six hours of the most body slamming and back breaking music known to man, are you up for the challenge?
Make sure you are match fit and ringside at the Cinema Room from 9pm, $3 in hand. The usual rules apply, three falls, a knockout or a submission to decide and if you can keep going until 3am we're sure it's you that'll be the winner!
All together now.....easy....easy....easy!

Saturday 15th November ATIC Records - Crowhead 'Born with Teeth' Album launch

Saturday 15th sees the return of ATIC records to the Nines to launch the debut album 'Born with Teeth' by Crowhead. For those that don't know, the man Woody has been a regular on the Barrow and Manchester (heck, global) clubscene for many years and never fails to turn the party out. Previous releases under the guise of 'The Nudge' on Grand Central Records are still a firm favourite of many a DJ and crowd alike, with the trend set to continue with his new material. Featuring guest appearances from North West legend Mikey D.O.N. of Krispy 3, Niko and MC Kwasi (who will all be performing live on the night) it's set to become an instant classic.
Not content with a live PA, Crowhead will also be at the turntables, alongside ATIC cohorts Andy 'Aim' Turner and Gripper, and as a prelude to the nights events Movement regulars Kid Cagoule, Ste Kendall and Ad Bickerdike will also be dropping in to deliver top notch hip-hop, funk and beats.
The night starts at 9pm with tickets priced at $7. Get yourself there nice and promptly as you seriously don't want to miss a minute.......

Official....November is Movement Month

Movement are proud and very honoured to announce three dates this month, and every one of them sure to be an absolute stormer.

November 8th Smiggy's Birthday @ The Canteen
November 15th ATIC Records - Crowhead Album Launch @ The Nines
November 22nd Movement Vs Homegrown @ The Canteen

First up is Media Monkey Smythe's birthday celebrations at the Canteen Cinema Room. As a special one off, Ste Kendall & Ad Bickerdike will be dropping classic club tunes from the 1990 - 1992 era in honour of the birthday boy. Not one to be missed. Also DJ'ing on the night will be the Media Monkeys themselves and Ash Howell. Don't expect to be home 'till Tuesday.

Next, we join the inimitable ATIC Records squad to provide the opening 2 hours for the Crowhead album launch at the Nines. A massive night to launch what will be undoubtably an incredible album, the night also features the Crowhead himself on DJ and live PA duties with the legendary Mikey D.O.N. from Krispy 3. Featuring ATIC cohorts Gripper, Andy 'Aim' Turner and M.C. Kwasi also on the bill, this will be one to be talked about for some time.

Rounding off the month, we return to the Canteen to go head to head with the mighty Homegrown DJ's. Back on the scene with a bang last month, we join forces this month to destroy the Cinema Room sound system with back to back sets. There can only be one winner....you!

Movement Saturday 25th October @ The Canteen

Movement Saturday 20th September @ The Canteen

No rest for the wicked....a mere 3 weeks after the last session Movement is back at the Cinema Room on Saturday 20th September.

Expect the usual solid beats and tasty grooves combined with the freshest visuals, however a slight change in format this month sees turntable duties handled just by Ste Kendall and Ad Bickerdike, as Kid Cagoule is going back to basics and providing live percussion for the night instead.

Doors open from 10pm till 3am, and the only way to get behind the movement is to get down there. Raid the copper jar, search down the back of the sofa or get a mate to pay, but either way it's only $3 in for one of the best nights out until next month......
